About Stephanie

Graduating in 1990 with a B.A. from the University of MD, University College, I have continued studying papermaking, book arts and painting by taking workshops at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, VA, Pyramid Atlantic in MD and through our local Spinner and Weavers Guild.

Early in the 1990's I exhibited either paintings or handmade paper pieces. Occasionally, I would experiment combining the two techniques.

While painting and squishing paper pulp, I was also piecing quilts, stitching needlepoint and cross stitch and sewing. All skills I had learned from my grandmother and loved. I felt I was going in a million directions at once and made a decision to begin to combine all the craft and art techniques I knew to create art.

My first attempts were simple. I began by using zippers, lace and thread as inclusions in the handmade paper, then painting the piece. Currently, I've begun to combine cloth, paper to create alternative quilts and small sculptures.

While the process of combining art with traditionally craft techniques, continues to evolve in my work, I hope you enjoy looking at the pieces and will come back frequently to see new pieces.
